Renowned designer duo Shyamal and Bhumika Shodhan, who has dressed some of the biggest names in show business, including Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, opened their first standalone store in the city. And the foremost thing that comes to mind when one sees it, is that it is steeped in splendour.
The fashion week regulars had already established their retail presence in Ahmedabad, New Delhi and Mumbai over 17 years and their store in Hyderabad happens to be the first one in South India. “We have been visiting here for 20 years and it’s been our dream to launch an outlet here,” says Shyamal. The unveiling soon became the talk of the town as the showstopper was none other than T’town diva Samantha Akkineni.

All things luxe
Located at Uma Enclave, Banjara Hills, the sprawling 5,000 sq.ft fashion destination is inspired by the regal havelis of Gujarat with wall carvings envisioned by the talented husband and wife themselves. And that was the way the Ahmedabad-based couturiers decided to pay homage to their roots. As one walks in, they are greeted by the designers’ runway-ready line-up of women and menswear. Shyamal shares, “The city is rich in culture and there is a lot of value for handcraft, which is synonymous with our brand. It is also accessible to other cities in the South that makes it one of the prime locations.” We learn that Shyamal and Bhumika have been working quietly for the past one year to set it up — from choosing the location to getting the interiors ready.

Steeped in splendour
Their couture has always found a way to hark back at India’s ethnic heritage and give it a modern twist. For instance, we spotted closely cut sherwanis, shararas and cocktail-worthy crepe silk saris. They comprise resplendent vintage floral borders, which mirror the label’s aesthetic. In the store, one can find their latest bridal couture and a balanced and well-thought-out collection for the men. If we had to pick a few, we would say their former collections like Memoirs of a Maharani and The Renaissance Muse enjoy the spotlight here. Ladies, if you are thinking of dropping by, browse through their bias skirts with cholis, shararas, kalidaar panelled lehengas, trendy shoulder-baring blouses.

You can also check out their structured jackets, saris in sheer organzas, asymmetric hemlines, signature cowl dresses, exquisitely crafted veils and peplum tops in poet sleeves. There are plenty of outfits in georgettes and translucent tulle, which could be ideal picks for your wedding day. Apart from meticulously crafted sherwanis, the men can also look out for understated handwoven tussars, matkas and moonga variety of silks.
