This new collection looks back at grand Indian weddings
For this summer wedding season, couturier Abhinav Mishra takes a nostalgic journey back to his childhood to come up with Sangam, his latest summer wedding collection. Often found reminiscing about his fascination with grand Indian weddings, Abhinav’s ensembles form this collection evoke that feeling of love, elan and opulence with his signature mirror work on silhouettes creating magic. From vermillion red to a celebratory vibrant parrot green, hues of honey, gold and ivory, the edit encompasses a larger than life canvas of wedding couture. From grand flowing silhouettes, to playful cholis, elegant kurtas and heavy dupattas, this collection is a compilation of some of Mishra’s most favourite patterns on luxurious fabrics with scalloped hems and dangling doris.

What's the idea behind the collection?
The idea is to encapsulate the joy, love, and opulence of Indian weddings through the lens of my childhood memories. Each piece is a work of art, and celebrates tradition while infusing it with a modern sensibility, creating pieces that are fit for any occasion.
What are the wedding trends this summer?
This summer, wedding trends are all about embracing tradition with a modern twist. Bold colours, intricate embroidery, and statement accessories are key elements. Mix-and-match separates, lightweight fabrics, and sustainable choices are also gaining popularity among couples looking for a more relaxed wedding vibe.
How experimental have you gone with silhouettes for this summer wedding?
For this summer wedding season, I've experimented with a range of silhouettes to cater to different preferences. While grand flowing styles remain a staple, I've also introduced more playful and contemporary shapes such as asymmetrical cuts, cropped tops, and voluminous skirts. These experimental silhouettes add a fresh and modern twist to traditional wedding attire, allowing brides and grooms to express their individuality while still embracing tradition.
The summer wedding wardrobe must-haves?
Lightweight fabrics like chiffon, georgette, and organza to beat the heat while still looking elegant. Breathable silhouettes like flowy skirts, airy kurtas, and sleeveless blouses are essential for staying cool and comfortable throughout the festivities. Statement accessories such as oversized earrings, embellished clutches, and embroidered footwear are a few things that a lot brides are going to experiment with.
How sustainable is this collection?
Sustainability is at the forefront of my design process, and Sangam is no exception. I prioritize ethical sourcing of materials and work closely with skilled artisans to ensure fair labour practices. Also, we create timeless pieces that can be cherished for years to come.
How has your brand evolved over the years?
Over the years, my brand has evolved from a niche couture label to a globally recognized name in the wedding industry. By expanding my offerings to include ready-to-wear collections, accessories, and collaborations with luxury brands, I've been able to reach a wider audience while maintaining the integrity of my brand. We also look forward to launching our own line of jewellery by the later part of 2024.
