Men’s fine jewellery is having a defining moment, with minimalist chains, statement rings, and everyday diamond pieces becoming key elements of the modern wardrobe. Reflecting this shift, Sonani Jewels has introduced a dedicated Men’s Collection, envisioned by founder Agastya Sonani. Blending contemporary design with lab-grown diamonds, the collection celebrates versatility and self-expression.

What modern men look for in fine jewellery

For Agastya, the inspiration came directly from customers. “Men had very limited choices when it came to fine jewellery. At the same time, many of our women customers were looking for meaningful jewellery gifts for the men in their lives but couldn’t find designs that felt contemporary and sophisticated. Men today are more confident about expressing their personal style, and jewellery has become a natural extension of that identity. We felt the time was right to create a collection that reflects the modern man.”

He has also noticed a remarkable transformation in how men’s jewellery is perceived today. “Traditionally, men’s jewellery in India was largely associated with wedding bands, religious pieces, or family heirlooms. Today, men are increasingly viewing jewellery the same way they view a watch or a pair of premium shoes—as an accessory that completes their personal style. Jewellery has become part of the modern man’s wardrobe rather than something reserved only for special occasions,” shares Agastya.

According to him, men today are looking for jewellery that is subtle, while also being open to experimentation. “Many first-time buyers still gravitate towards clean, minimalist designs that they can wear comfortably every day. At the same time, we’re seeing a growing number of consumers who are willing to experiment with bolder rings, layered chains, coloured diamonds, and distinctive finishes. They are not afraid to showcase their personality through jewellery,” he says.

Agastya’s advice to someone new to jewellery is simple: start small. “Begin with one timeless piece—perhaps a classic bracelet, a diamond ring, or a clean chain that complements your everyday style. Jewellery shouldn’t feel intimidating; it should feel like a natural extension of your personality. Once you’re comfortable wearing one piece, you can gradually explore layering or combining different styles,” he adds.
