Designer Gunjan Jain’s brand Vriksh, unveiled its winter-festive collection, Yogini, which was recently showcased in Lakme Fashion Week. The collection boasts of a wide range of silhouettes, which are experimental yet timeless and celebrates womanhood.

The show commenced with a highly interactive contemporary dance performance followed by a “Tale of the Lost and Found Yogini”. Inspired by the Chausat Yogini Temple in Odisha, that has 64 tantric female deities, the collection had immaculately woven ethnic saris that were raw and yet edgy in nature.

Using Yoginis as her canvas to delve into the influence of the varied expressions, the designer displayed a resplendent collection, which had the traits of contemporary prét.

To create an ostentatious extravagance, highly intricate blouses were braided with the saris, which were draped in an innovative manner, with some even worn as dhotis. From backless blouses to waist clinchers and belts, the colour story was as interesting as its weaves.

Weaving khadi textures in soft tussar silk fabrics lent an elegant grandeur to the creations and handcrafted intricate patterns, such as, Jala, embroidery and Ikat work highlighted the traditional craftsmanship from different regions of Odisha.

The show was stopped by the gorgeous Bollywood actress Rasika Dugal, in a hand spun and hand woven tussar, silk sari. Contemporising the Kumbha, which is a classic, Odisi temple motif, the earthy green and charcoal grey Badhte Kadam sari looked timeless.

Eloquent in expression and deep in thought, the Yogini collection is indeed for women, who desire timeless weaves.
