Nevermind offers heady cocktails, world cuisine and private booths

How can one begin to describe the experience that’s Nevermind, the new restaurant by Rohit Barker, Shylesh Jain and Rices Obliquity? Eclectic and excessive, it offers tables that promise privacy, quirky igloo-shaped pods and a mirrored ceiling. There are also plenty of indoor plants that match the leafy green upholstered chairs, contrasting cream drapes and pillars fitted with metallic golden trellises, to give diners a truly magical time. Though spread across 3,000 square feet, the numerous nooks and corners lend it a cosy vibe.

We dropped by on a chilly weekday evening but were curious to try out some of their cocktails, which, as it turned out, we did not regret. Cottage In The Woods, whisky with passion fruit, orange chunks, bitters and lime, was perfectly balanced and we loved the way the flavours came together. The Flint, a mixture of vodka, guava juice, jalapeno, brine water and mint, is an innovative cocktail, which is a must-try.

Boasting a menu that showcases the best of world cuisine, you’ll find dim sums rubbing shoulders with paneer tikka, and chicken filo parcels sharing space with fish and chips. We started our meal with a selection of dim sums, all of which are made with wheat and potato starch, instead of maida. The Prawn Shui Mai With Chicken, prawns with minced chicken, is an interesting reinterpretation of the dish and was quite impressive.

The Chicken Chiu Chow Style Dumpling, a dish from Chaoshan in Southern China, was fresh and packed with flavour. Besides the dim sums, we also sampled the Thai Coconut Crumb Prawns. Coated in grated coconut and deep fried, this one is a burst of coastal flavours on your palate.

While there are safe options such as Thai Red and Green Curries and Nasi Goreng, from the main course section, we suggest you take a leap of faith and go for dishes such as Salmon Wrapped Baked Filo Parcel (salmon and bacon in puff pastry) and Bacon Rice With Oyster Mushroom (rice with pieces of bacon and mushroom).

We opted for the Rendang Duck Curry, which ticked all the boxes. The traditional Malaysian curry featured confit duck in a coconut milk gravy, but the surprise element was the inclusion of pineapple. The odd combination worked beautifully and when paired with the sticky rice that’s part of the platter, it disappeared from the table in no time.

The JD Mud Pie, a proper ‘adult’ dessert was the fitting end to our meal, though other options such as Brownie Cheesecake and Banoffee Cheesecake looked equally appealing. The mud pie, a perfect blend of chocolate, cream and Jack Daniel’s, is definitely a repeat order.

With interiors that are innovative and exciting and a menu that goes beyond the usual suspects and delivers on taste, Nevermind is sure to make a mark in the city’s culinary and nightlife circuit.
