The Beatles cafÉ is located on the ever-bustling Sathy Road opposite to the Prozone Mall. With a built-up area of 1,100 sq ft and a seating capacity of 32, the café is themed after the world’s most influential rock band, The Beatles. “The café serves burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, pasta and pizzas, along with a few continental dishes,” says owner Harish Selvaraj, sharing that all the sauces for pasta and pizza, patties for burgers, sandwich spreads and mayo are prepared in-house.
Retro rerun
The cafe has an ambience similar to that of an English bistro with its warm lighting, circular cubicles in the middle, and bar-style seating upfront. The interior decor and seating draw inspiration from the famous 1950s Volkswagen Bus (also known as the hipster mobile). The café also houses a collection of old audio cassettes and wall hangings of The Beatles, including newspaper articles and album art posters.
Food for thought
We were greeted by cool refreshing lemon-mint and blue sky lagoon mocktails followed by the chef special Parmesan coated grilled chicken with brown butter sauce. A contrast of textures, the chicken had a crispy exterior that is coated with parmesan and a rich buttery brown sauce that pairs well with the crunch of the lettuce and carrots. For vegetarians, try the Jalapeno cheese balls with spicy mayo. While the crispy cheese balls are nothing out of the ordinary, the spicy mayo garnished with coriander elevates the whole dish.
Slice of heaven
While the café has its array of pizzas we tried the Cilantro chilli veg pizza. A thin crust offering, the pizza is topped with cilantro and chilli sauce, ample parmesan cheese, red capsicum, paneer and jalapenos. Non-vegetarians can opt for the Barbecue chicken pizza with olives, chunky barbecue chicken pieces, jalapenos and parmesan
Main bites
We next try chef Tamizh V’s signature dishes — Panko crumbed cheese stuffed chicken breast and Cajun seasoned vegetable gumbo. The rich goey goodness of the parmesan centre cuts through the crunch of the outer skin. This dish comes served with herb mayo bread baked with garlic sauce and cheese and is a meal in itself. The Cajun seasoned gumbo with aubergine and zucchini is tangy from the tomato sauce and has a thick layer of cheese on top, reminding us of a lasagne.
