Google is making it easier than ever for updating your Gmail address. Google is rolling out the feature users have been waiting for: the option to change the first part of their Gmail address before the '@gmail.com.' The CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., Sundar Pichai, joked about the feature in a social media post: “While 2004 was a great year, your email address does not have to stay stuck in the past.” The feature is supposed to help your account grow with you as your tastes change.

How Google’s new features can help you in updating your Gmail address?

The feature helps users choose a new, available username without losing any account history. All your emails, photos, and files remain in the same account. The clever bit of this update is that your old email address doesn’t disappear. It becomes an alternative, which means if someone sends an email to your old username, it will arrive at your inbox. Users can log in to any Google service, like YouTube, Maps, Google Drive, with your old or new email address.

What are the new rules and restrictions?

There are a few things to remember while updating your Gmail address. These are as follows:

-You can change your Gmail address only once every 12 months.

-You can change your Gmail address a total of three times in your lifetime.

-You can go back to your original Gmail address if you change your mind.

-The new email address has to be unique and has to be used by nobody else.

Google also recommends backing up your information before making the change. Currently, the service is being rolled out to users in the United States.

Step-by-step guide to updating your Gmail address:

Here’s the step-by-step process to change your Gmail address:

- Access your settings: Sign in to your Google Account settings page on your computer or mobile device.

- Locate your info: Click Personal info.

- Access email settings: Scroll down to the section Contact info. Click Email and then Google Account email.

- Look for the feature: If the feature has been enabled, you should see the option “Change Google Account email.” Click on it.

- Enter your new name: Enter a new username that has not been used before.

- Save your new email: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. It is recommended to first backup your data.

- Logging in: After completing the process, you can use your new or old email id to log in. All your emails will be in the same

Updating your Gmail account is a highly anticipated feature for many users who have created email accounts years ago with old names. This feature allows users to have flexibility while still retaining important content. Users can safely change their Gmail account up to three times in their lifetime within the set limit.
