The art and craft traditions of Rajasthan find space at the galleries of Kolkata Centre for Creativity through the exhibition Desert Scripts. The exhibition, which focuses on five interesting local art of the state, depicts their evolution, from paper to fashion. The interesting display is on till August 1 and is part of the fourth edition of the Ramjhol Festival.

The Pichwai tradition mostly portrays stories from Indian mythology like the Radha-Krishna. The cow motif is also a recurring one which keeps appearing in most images. Among the foremost Pichwai artists one find mention of the National Award winning Kalyan Mal Sahu.

One of the most interesting displays in the exhibition is tracing how these artworks find place in contemporary fashion. Termed as living heritage one can see and touch how Rajasthani handicrafts are now being worn by people. These range from traditional jewellery to textiles curated by Naina Jain.

If you notice a frame full of intricate hand cut paper, that is the Sanjhi art. Made by Ram Soni, a sixth generation Sanjhi artist, his works keep the tradition alive while presenting it for a modern audience.
