Eastern India’s biggest fitness, sports & wellness trade expo The Fit Expo just had its biggest and most successful edition at Science City, Kolkata a few days back. The three-day exhibition had a keen focus on athletics and sports-related areas this year, besides featuring wellness and fitness products and services, sports gear, accessories, dietary alternatives, and other merchandise. We dropped in on the afternoon of the opening day and discovered the expo was being held across an expansive area covering 1,50,000 square feet.

One of the best things about the exhibition is that it can benefit anyone, from a seasoned gym buff to a fitness rookie who just wants to eat healthy, especially as visitors actually got to meet and communicate with some of the most established health professionals and seek pointers. We stumbled upon a live Zumba session right beside which we found a rock-climbing set-up!

Visitors also got a chance to explore alternative fitness-driven formats like power yoga, dance fitness workouts, bodybuilding, adventure sports like parkour, skateboarding and b-boying etc. We also found a zone dedicated to healthy eating featuring a range of organic food, vegan alternatives, cold press juices and more.

The Fit Expo is, of course, also an incredible, interactive engagement and networking opportunity, and this year it was attended by more than 40,000 people. The Fit Expo, supported by Indulge, The New Indian Express, is a platform where you can actually interact and learn directly from industry experts, fitness and lifestyle gurus, professional health advisers. We even spotted celebrated American bodybuilder Kai Greene at the weight-lifting competition. In fact, we found many visitors actively seeking advice on their fitness regimen from professionals, and some very helpful stalls featuring commercial gyms, cardio and pilates gear, cross-fit and functional training sets, nutritional alternatives, and even gym flooring and decor!

“Fit Expo is not merely an expo, it’s a dream come true. A dream that has been preserved, nurtured with extreme passion, care and hard work, and brought to life through sustained perseverance. It has taken a long time to build this, to turn this vision into reality. It is my way of giving back to the society, with gratitude and humility. I have built some precious relationships along the way and every time God has suitably rewarded me by making Fit Expo bigger and better with every season. I am confident of taking it to greater heights and make it a Pan-India event soon,” says Mr Gagan Sachdev, of Bodyline Sports who also happens to be the Chief Convener of the show.

This year, The Fit Expo, supported by Indulge, The Morning Standard, also hosted a bodybuilding and physique championship titled, Sangram Classic Championship, which provided a genuine and unbiased platform to athletes from all over the country.  Moreover, visitors got to see more than 50 different types of competitions like arm wrestling, powerlifting, CrossFit, along with more than 30 different styles of martial arts like kickboxing, grappling, Kyokushin Karate, traditional karate, Wushu, Kalahi, etc.
