Minimalism is in, and neutral colours are doing the magic of aesthetics just right these days. However, amidst keeping up with the trends, some of us are still torn between the choices of a creative space and the belief in colour-coded rules of Vastu.

When Minimalism meets Vastu: How to balance both?

In the books of rituals and ancient architecture, painting your space with certain colours is bound to bring prosperity and good vibes. However, the colours of Vastu are often coded in bright maximalist ones, which oppose the rule of minimalism. Green, for example, is a great colour for building good energy in the required space, and beige is known for its minimalist outlook.

Colours are believed to influence mood, energy, and even prosperity in the chapters of Vastu. While earthy tones like beige, cream, and off-white promote stability and peace, an excess of muted shades may lead to a stagnant or low-energy environment. Beige blocks don’t especially block prosperity, but if used in excess, they can bring an undesirable energy to the space.

Vastu aims to balance Earth (stability), Water (prosperity), Fire (energy), Air (vitality), and Space (openness). Likewise, colour aligns with certain qualities of Vastu. White (clarity/peace), yellow (optimism/wealth), green (growth/healing), blue (serenity/new beginnings), and red/orange (vitality).

Now comes the real trick: play with lighter tones and let them do the work. Even without strictly following Vastu’s exact colour palette, subtle shades of these colours can still create a sense of balance alongside building the minimalist look you’re looking forward to achieving.

Soft blues can promote calmness, while light yellows might boost cheerfulness. Keep it simple and don’t overuse the colours. Alongside this, a few carefully chosen accessories can make a significant impact and bring out the happy minimalist look to life.

As per an expert who was quoted in an article, “Every colour carries a frequency. It either enhances or blocks the natural rhythm of your space. So the next time you’re browsing paint swatches, don’t just think of what’s on-trend. Think of what uplifts. Think of what aligns. Choose with awareness”.
