Known for distinct prints and traditional as well as contemporary silhouettes, BIBA has firmly established itself in the wardrobes of fashionistas over the past three decades. The Delhi-based brand has our attention now with a new collection and a feisty expansion plan. Last week BIBA launched not just one but six new outlets in the city, taking the total tally to 14 in the city. Talking about the brand at the latest Gariahat outlet Siddharath Bindra, MD, BIBA, offers, “We came to Kolkata in 1999 at Pantaloons Camac Street and the response was phenomenal. That was our second store in India and the Kolkata market gave us a big boost. And now that same 300 sq ft is being expanded to 3000 sq ft.” BIBA will now be available at Gariahat, Quest Mall, Hatibagan, AC Market-Howrah, Star Mall and City Centre Salt Lake.

Floral bliss

We loved the off-white anarkali worn by actor Ritabhari Chakraborty at the inauguration that had subtle embroidery and gota work, perfect for occasion wear during summer. Keeping trends in mind we also saw shirt kurtas with floral motifs in the new collection. We couldn’t agree more when Bindra asserted that BIBA is a powerhouse of fabrics. He says, “We are one brand that really innovates on fabric. From cotton to silk and chanderi, Bhagalpur ikkat to even power loom fabrics from the south, we give the best to our customers.” Bengal inspires the collection with its embroidery and zardozi work that are strategically used in the collections.

Having an imprint in 80 cities with 275 stores, the young brand started by Bindra’s mother Meena Bindra is diversifying its products. After starting their kids' range in 2011, the brand has launched accessories and footwear.
