Some 170,000 people attended a concert in Mexico City that was organised to draw attention to the plight of earthquake victims.

The Mexican and foreign artists who performed at the free concert on Sunday night called on donors to provide more assistance to victims of the recent earthquakes in Mexico and help rebuild devastated areas, Efe news reported.

The earthquakes that hit Mexico last month killed at least 470 people and caused extensive damage to cities in the central and southern regions of the country.

Bronco, a norteña music group, opened the "Estamos Unidos Mexicanos" (We Are United Mexicans) concert in Zocalo, Mexico City's largest public square.

Camila, singer-songwriter Pepe Aguilar, Emmanuel and Mijares were among the Mexican artists who performed.

Colombian singer Juanes, Puerto Rican singer Chayanne and Spanish artists Enrique Bunbury and Miguel Bose also took the stage at the concert.

People in the audience danced, sang and locked arms as a show of unity during the six-hour concert.
