Thirty-five people, including 25 women, were arrested on Sunday night as a result of simultaneous police raids across a dozen spa centres - all of them allegedly running sex rackets in Noida, reports said.

There were foreign nationals among the people arrested, including a few hailing from Thailand, a few police officials disclosed, without offering further details or an exact count.

The 14 spa centres have been sealed off, as reports say that three of them have been involved in the flesh trade, while the others show serious irregularities.

“On the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna, the raids were conducted late in the evening at 14 spa centres in the commercial hub of Sector 18. The raids continued till almost midnight,” a release from Gautam Buddh Nagar (Rural) Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal said that 14 police teams involving seven circle officers, eight station house officers, 30 sub-inspectors and both male and female constables carried out the action.

“Altogether 35 people — 10 men and 25 women — were arrested from these spas, including multiple foreign nationals. Around INR 1 lakh in cash, beer, used and unused condoms, along with other objectionable articles, were seized from these spa centres,” the release from Jaiswal said.

A case has been lodged against the spa centres and their owners are expected to be booked under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act, said reports.
