Amazon.com’s Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Bezos, his wife of 26 years are set to divorce amidst rumours of Jeff’s alleged affair with a married TV anchor in Seattle. While the couple was already on trial separation, according to a recent tweet, the divorce comes one year after he became the world’s richest man, with an estimated worth of 137 billion dollars.
Interestingly, the announcement by the couple came hours before a leading daily said it would publish an expose about the Amazon founder. However, while Wall Street seems to be unaffected by the news, there are rumours that several investors who are waiting to see the effect the divorce will have on Jeff’s position at Amazon. The reason for the affair is said to be Jeff’s affair with a former TV anchor, Lauren Sanchez. The anchor, who is also a pilot is reportedly married to a Hollywood talent agent, Patrick Whitesell and was seeing Jeff, for quite some time, even during the couple’s separation.
Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos, first met during an interview the former conducted with her for a position at a hedge fund firm way back. However, the pair ended up having offices next to each other and soon after decided to tie the knot in 1993, before they moved to Seattle, where Jeff started Amazon. However, it is estimated that if the couple split the wealth, MacKenzie will be at 69 billion dollars and also the richest woman in the world and Jeff will lose his position as the richest person in the world as Bill Gates takes over at 92.5 billion dollars.
