Soon after joining an ad agency as a designer Subhajit Dutta realised he was not meant for a nine to seven job and his calling lay elsewhere. Having a knack for photography, the 34-year-old joined a course on the same, and started working as a freelance documentary photographer for World Bank and an NGO, after completing the course in 2008. “I could never take the pressure of a job and wanted to work independently, where I could put my creative skills to use,” recalls the lensman. It was from 2011 that he started to shoot models and take assignments of product modelling from various e-commerce sites.

“Even when I am shooting with models, I like to create stories through the frames that I click by capturing fleeting emotions. There should be an underlying meaning in every picture, which should be left open to interpretation,” Subhajit tells us. In the pictures of these four models that he shot recently for four different projects, he has tried to bring different expressions out of the models.

“In the case of product shoots, I always want to get a formal and smart expression so that the model looks confident in the product that she is endorsing. When it comes to portfolios I like candid expressions, where the model doesn’t become too aware of the camera and looks natural,” says Dutta. Dutta believes that Antara’s and Dimple’s strengths lie in the way they carry themselves. “Both of them have a lot of the right attitude and that works very well,” he adds. “Sayantani’s wide smile is her asset but she should work more on her expressions, while Supriti’s jawline is extremely well-defined,” he states.

In fact, Subhajit’s passion for work transcends everything else in his life. “When I am not working, I go out with my camera and click pictures to de-stress. Some people become unproductive when they feel low but as weird as it may sound, I feel motivated even when I am feeling low,” he shares.

Model Antara
Model Antara

 Antara Chowdhury | 23, height: 5 ft 6 inches

In this picture, this model is seen wearing a sunflower yellow silk sari, for an e-commerce site. “I love wearing Western casuals and dresses in comfortable silhouettes. When it comes to fabrics, her natural choice is sustainable, organic textiles that are soothing in texture and not rough on the skin, such as cotton, linen and khadi. “Orange and white are my favourite colours. I’m not much of an accessories person, but I love wearing watches in all kinds of shapes and sizes,” she says. When it comes to make-up, she likes keeping it minimal. “Even for social or family gatherings, I like to wear only a tinted lip balm and keep it light,” shares the spunky model, who is working in a tele-series.

Dimple loves wearing Western clothes and jumpsuits are her favourite attire. “White is my favourite colour and I love wearing simple and sleek chains with pendants. I love different kinds of bracelets or charmlets. But I am most crazy about shoes and have about 148 pairs of them in various colours including bold neon green,” confesses the shoe addict.

 Sayantani Ghosh | 21, height: 5 ft 7 inches

A third-year student of Mass Communication, Sayantani wants to take up modelling as a profession and has done quite a few modelling assignments. This picture was a part of a portfolio shoot. “It was a throwback shoot. Hence we did it entirely in black and white and chose a tram bogey as the location. In fact, I wore a chiffon sari and pearls to go with the concept,” informs Sayantani. The leggy lass is not too inclined toward traditional or ethnic wear though. “I love wearing Western outfits mostly, including jeans and capris. For parties and night outs I love wearing dresses, both gowns and short ones, and black is my eternal favourite,” she says. “I wear minimal make-up and smokey eyes with a nude lip work best for me,” she says.

Model Supriti

This young graduate in Mass Communication and Journalism is passionate about modelling and has been consistently taking up modelling assignments. When not shooting, Supriti loves wearing Western casuals. “A pair of jeans are my favourite attire. I love wearing bright colours and my favourite colours include black, red, blue and purple, and I like mostly wearing solid colours since I don’t like prints that much,” says the enthusiastic young girl, who dreams of heading a fashion start-up one day. When it comes to make-up, it’s only light mascara and lipsticks in shades of light pink, coral or orange for her. “I love sling bags and oversized earrings, especially hoops,” says the model, who loves listening to music when not working.
