Legendary Olympic sprinter, Usain Bolt has made headlines after his name was spotted in the squad list of Wythenshawe FC Veterans as a registered player. His name can be seen on the Full-Time website of the Football Association. The 40-year-old is world famous for his eight Olympic gold medals and is record-breaking 100 metres and 200 metres runs.
Wythenshawe FC Veterans is a football team for players above 35 years of age. It is based in south Manchester and has been in the news for filling up its squads with former players who have played for Premier League teams.
Notable names in the Veterans' team include retired England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, former Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia, Manchester City's Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League champions Danny Drinkwater and Joleon Lescott.
Usain Bolt hung up his sprinting boots in 2017 and decided to test the waters of football, albeit briefly. Following his retirement from athletics, he trained with big-time clubs like Germany's Borussia Dortmund and Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.
He was also associated with Strømsgodset in Norway before taking a trial with Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners in 2018 and he even scored twice for the team! However, in January 2019, Usain said that his sporting life was behind him until recently when his name appeared on Wythenshawe's website.
