Rajasthan has long had a reputation for bold, hearty cooking, and The Greenhouse Barbecue has brought a generous slice of that tradition to the table with their ongoing food festival. We turned up with good appetites and an open mind, and the staff wasted no time making us feel very welcomed as soon as we entered.
The evening kicked off with the Raj kachori landing straight on our table. Crisp, generously filled and bursting with chutneys and yoghurt, it had us smiling from the initial bite. The Tamatar dhania shorba followed shortly after—warm and tangy with a lovely coriander flavour finish. It was simple and honest, yet tasty in every spoon. We devoured it in seconds.
Then came the iconic Dal baati churma, which was the highlight of the early course. The baatis had a proper baked crust, the dal was thick and well-seasoned, and the churma brought in just enough sweetness to make the whole thing sing. We could have stopped right there and still called it a good meal.
But there was a full buffet waiting, so off we went. The Bhedmi poori was our first pick, soft inside and nicely puffed, pairing wonderfully with the gravies on offer. The Paneer lababdar was creamy and well-balanced, the Rajasthani aloo dum had a bold, spiced depth that we kept going back to, and the Gatte ki sabzi was comforting and full of flavour. We tried a little of everything and regretted nothing. The other breads included the hearty Bajra roti, and the crispy and satisfying Mutter kachori.
A special mention goes to the accompaniments. The Lasoon chutney was sharp and punchy, the namkeens added crunch, and the Rajasthani green chilli pickle gave a welcome heat to every bite.
We spotted a dosa variety on the menu and instantly ordered it from the live counter. Soon, the Dosa besan chilla arrived at our tables. Served with chutneys on the sides, the dosa was light and tasted healthy. The Khakhra sandwich from the chaat counter, meanwhile, was a fun, crunchy addition that worked surprisingly well.
Dessert was a genuine pleasure. The Kesar kheer was smooth and fragrant with a good hit of saffron, and the Baked boondi gulab jamun was soft, syrupy, and tasty.
We wrapped up with a Green House Barbecue special paan shot, cool and refreshing, which was the perfect little send-off after such a hearty meal.
