Kolkata’s Ganges Art Gallery will be holding an exhibition, Belles Petite Choses, which means small, beautiful things, from March 7. The prime intention of this group art show is to establish a lively situation and share the joy it begets. With artists from the two cities located in the eastern and western parts of India, namely, Kolkata and Baroda, this show aims at overcoming the barriers of distance, so as to unite art and artists, and facilitate an ambience of exuberance.
“We are attempting to encourage mutual exchange of ideas amongst artists, to create the opportunity for discourse before their own creative visuals, and above all, to ensure the formulation of an atmosphere conducive to art through the congregation of so many artists. It would also be a great opportunity for amateur admirers of art and junior artists, to witness a plethora of artwork under one roof” says Debashish Dutta, a Baroda-based artist, who has co-curated the show along with Shimeesha Art Team.
Previously, in 2018, an exhibition titled, Banyan Art Show, was held with artists from the two cities at the same venue. In that show a few Kolkata-based artists, who were former students of art from MS University Baroda, showcased their paintings. That exhibition tried to emphasise that fact that despite residing and practising art in different cities a common thread could be found in the work of the painters since they had the same schooling. Parallels could be drawn when it came to their paintings and visual language.
“Small-format works of quite a few artists have been displayed in the French salon style at the show. Just as this enables a larger volume of work to be displayed in a smaller space, likewise on the same wall, a synthesis of various images of different dimensions together create a unified concept. The gathering of artists and spectators, the plethora of images on the walls, and the vibrations that emanate from their mutual friction while striving to observe the images, makes it psychologically more meaningful,” feel Shubhra Chowdhuri, senior manager, Ganges Art Gallery.
More than 50 artists from Baroda and Kolkata including Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Akbar Ali, Aditya Basak, Atin Basak, Chatrapati Dutta, Xhnadra Bhattacharjee, Yashwant Deshmukh, Deepak sonar, Falguni Bhatt and Dhruv Mistry will be participating in this 23-day long exhibition.
The exhibition Belles Petite Choses will be held at Ganges Art Gallery from March 7-23 from 11 am to 7 pm
