The return of Tails on Fire in the indie circuit has perked up interest among many in Chennai. Barring a one-off performance in March this year, TOF is coming back together after a two-year hiatus, for a performance today at Sherlock’s Pub, Kilpauk. But in reality, it’s almost like they have never left, their bassist Jitesh Dharmaraj tells us. Jitesh, who plays for other bands like RJD and Junkyard Groove, credits their other commitments and projects for the break from TOF, a band which is completed by Skrat frontman guitarist Sriram TT, Jitesh’s brother Ritesh (also RJD and Junkyard Groove) on drums, and Karan Nair on vocals. “We’ve all been busy with our respective bands and projects, but Tails on Fire has always been our stress buster. The opportunity presented itself and we’re always ready to do a gig, especially on home turf,” says Jitesh, who adds that despite maturing as individual musicians during the past two years, all they aim to do is have fun when playing together.

Promising a mix of old songs and a few unreleased tracks, the alt-rock band (although they are not keen to assign a genre to their music) is known for their high-octane live sets, a trait that they were associated with during early days. “TOF has always been second nature to each of us. The style is very different from all our other respective bands. Here the music happens spontaneously and organically; we don't overthink stuff,” explains Jitesh. Formed in 2011, TOF happened after an impromptu gig, followed by a win at the Chennai Band Hunt in the same year. “We have been friends and family forever since then,” adds the bassist. Admitting that the four of them happen to be on the same page with regards to their approach to songwriting, Jitesh says that it comes naturally to them. “It just happens randomly, when one of us starts fiddling around, and the rest of us join in,” he says, adding that this is the first time they are performing at Sherlock’s. “The entry to the event is free so it should make for an interesting and fun night,” he signs off.

December 6, 9 pm. Entry free. Details: 92393-00300.
