Tamil actor Siddharth criticised the first trailer of Marathi film Thackeray on Thursday, to say that the film promotes hate against south Indians. The film, based on the life of former late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, released to an audience who praised Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his portrayal of the Sena chief but however was criticised by Siddharth for playing the role.
Being active on Twitter, Siddharth after watching the trailer immediately tweeted saying Nawazuddin has repeated Uthao lungi Bajao pungi, which clearly indicates hate speech and in a film glorifying the person who said it. He went on to further question and ask the makers how could they make money off such a film with propaganda, and even called it scary for everybody else. However, the actor did not stop there and went on to say that it is poetic justice Muslim man from Uttar Pradesh is playing the role of a Marathi bigot in the film.
Siddharth even pointed out that the film trailer has conveniently not given subtitles and the hate is being sold with so much heroism and romance to the unknowing people. He went on to add that there is absolutely no solidarity shown to so many south Indians who make Mumbai great. Many on Twitter immediately came to his support and said it is quite sad that the film is promoting the works of Bal Thackeray.
