Karan Johar who recently attended the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) to celebrate 20 years of his career and his debut movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, was asked by the audience who he would cast if he remade the film now. Karan said, "On my wishlist would be Ranveer Singh as Rahul. He has that mad intensity as Shah Rukh Khan. Alia Bhatt as Anjali. She has the spunk and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina because she has the poise and balance of the part."

The filmmaker also shared a few anecdotes from the making of his first film. Narrating how he chose the cast for the film, he said,"I was ecstatic to met SRK. Kajol and he had promised that they will do my first film. I remember going to meet him without a script. I only had a scene in my mind. Which I narrated to him. And he bought into my bullsh*t. I told him if you like this one scene then I will narrate the entire film to you, which was complete a lie. For Rani's role, I approached Tabu, Urmila and Aishwarya who all turned me down. Ash was the only one who was polite to call me back. It took months to cast for Rani’s part. Only later, after Aditya Chopra recommended her name, I cast her." The producer-director spoke at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne where he was honoured for completing two decades in Bollywood.

It's been a while since Karan has directed a film. However, he is actively producing films and his next big project is Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
