10 years without MJ: Manish Malhotra recalls Michael Jackson wearing his sherwani at 1999 award show
Fashion designer Manish Malhotra has shared a picture of himself with the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, as a personal tribute, days after the iconic singer's 10th death anniversary.
Titled '10 years without MJ', Manish Malhotra penned a post recalling how the singer and star had worn a sherwani, trousers and a shawl with Indian embroidery art designed by him, for the Bollywood Movie Awards in 1999. Michael also thanked Manish for the outfit on stage, says the note from the designer.
On the occasion, Michael Jackson was awarded a Humanitarian Award.
Here's what Manish wrote, looking back at that evening: "Years ago, before I had launched Manish Malhotra Label, I had the honour of meeting the great Michael Jackson... I had designed a smart cut sherwani with trousers and a shawl with Indian embroidery art... Not only did he wear the outfit, he also thanked me on stage at the Famous #BollywoodAwards USA, which became a memorable moment for me. #tributetomj #10yearswithoutmj."
