New reports reveal WWE legend Hulk Hogan, who died at 71 due to cardiac arrest, had gone under the knife several times and battled multiple health issues.
Recent reports suggest Hulk Hogan, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea, had been privately battling cancer. Hulk Hogan reportedly suffered from Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), a type of cancer that affects white blood cells called lymphocytes—something that was not known until after his death. However, it is not known when he was diagnosed or if he was battling cancer in the months leading up to his death.
CLL typically progresses more slowly than other forms of leukaemia and usually impacts older adults. Hulk's health was suffering towards the end of his life. Autopsy reports suggest that he had a history of atrial fibrillation.
The documents, provided by the Pinellas County Forensic Science Centre, indicated that his cause of death was "acute myocardial infarction", commonly called a heart attack.
Hulk also suffered complications from a neck surgery in May 2025. He was intubated and battled renal failure, fluid overload and severe COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), according to a wrestling journalist.
A source told the media that his wrestling damaged his body which was "beaten up" even though it is fake.
“(Wrestling)... is not physically fake. There were predetermined outcomes to the matches, but the physicality was very real. He was always in some sort of pain. He paid for his success,” the source said.
WWE star died on July 24 after paramedics were dispatched to his Florida-based home.
Hulk broke into the national spotlight in 1983 when he signed with the WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation. He was known for his blond hair, dark spray tan, red and yellow ensembles and downward-curved moustache.
But he was a controversial figure despite his fame. One of them involved a sex tape which was leaked and he was heard using racist remarks, some of which pertained to his daughter who was dating a Black man. This led the end of his WWE contract ending.
His daughter Brooke has reportedly walked away from his million-dollar fortune. Her husband said that the "bulk of his money" came at the expense of Brooke's "dignity".
"It was built on hurtful comments about her and her past relationship. That pain didn’t stop with her; it affected other families, too," Hulk's son in law said about Brooke in an interview.
