In a surprising turn of events, Hollywood momager Kris Jenner has become a symbol of luck in China. Across social media she has become the face of good fortune, wealth and manifestation. It turned the internet into a full-blown inter-cultural playground, and here’s how it all started.

Internet turns Kris Jenner into a symbol of wealth and fortune; here's everything to know

It all began with a simple reaction image that has evolved into a widespread meme culture, blending humor, aspiration, and digital superstition. Now that one picture is edited, and several  variants are created, where Kris’s outfits and headgears are incorporated in the most unique way. Many around the country started believing in several superstitions revolving around the image.

According to a TikTok user, the image mainly puts the light on the hardworking nature of the woman. People across the country majorly are manifesting her life and thus are literally worshiping the businesswoman. The extraordinarily hardworking woman is referred to as 'Tai Hou' (mother of the Emperor) in the country. This level of respect has put the momager into a semi-ironic meme.

The TikTok user has also said, “Cosplaying Kris Jenner is like a Gen Z funny way to manifest success." The meme quickly snowballed, taking on a life of its own — spreading far and wide, almost like a patron saint of material success.  Soon this started popping up everywhere, from phone wallpapers to iPads, tablets, and desktop screens.

Altered versions of the image have also taken over construction sites, retail shops and other places. As of now more than 99,000 Jenner-themed posts can be found on RedNote, a Chinese app, attracting more than 52 million views.

One of the comments that transcended most of the comments, “The devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder”.

On one of the viral videos, Kris herself commented and wrote, “You’re ALL doing amazing, sweetie!!!!”

The internet seems divided over whether figures admired in China automatically become role models for the public. This is because just in January, Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter was humorously dubbed a symbol of good luck and prosperity during the Chinese Lunar New Year which gained a lot of traction worldwide. Whatever the reasoning may be, these situations ultimately reflect a celebration of popularity and the love only gets bigger.
