As Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton were making their way through the grandstands at Super Bowl LX making everyone turn to stare at them, one of the biggest superstars across the globe was making headlines for a different kind of heat. The famous Canadian rapper Drake has reportedly lost a whopping $1 million due to a bet on the Patriots-Seahawks game on Sunday night.

‘Drake Curse’ back again?

The God's Plan music star revealed on social media his powerful bet ahead of the big game, boasting assuredly to his fans to "bet against me if you dare." Had the Patriots won, the singer would have collected on his winnings, amounting to close to $3 million. However, with the Seahawks putting on such a powerful defensive display, winning 29-13, Drake did not collect his winnings, adding fuel to the ‘Drake Curse’ rumor.

Under the superstitious theory, it’s assumed that a team or player endorsed by the rapper is certain to lose. Although Drake has in the past dismissed the notion, citing his success with the Toronto Raptors’ 19 NBA Championship, his current run tells a different story. Fans were quick to joke online that the Patriots' fate was sealed the moment he posted his betting slip.

Even the public support for the decision from Patriots super fan Mark Wahlberg, who said that this was a “smart” decision, was unable to end the streak. Drake is already on record admitting that he is a “flawed sports bettor,” and this Sunday’s performance at Levi Stadium only served to further fuel the jinx discussion.

Despite the betting drama, the night remained a celebration of culture and sport. Indeed, Bad Bunny made it in history as it is the first time a solo Latino artist appeared at the halftime show. He had a great performance with his hits, Tití Me Preguntó, alongside Lady Gaga in a salsa performance that kept the crowd entertained as the Patriots were struggling on the field. For the Seahawks, it was sweet vindication on a night in which they clinched the Lombardi trophy for the second consecutive year. For Drake, it was another one-million-dollar lesson on how unpredictable football can be.
