For his performance as Robbie Prendergast in HBO's crime drama Task, opposite Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series on Sunday night, earning him his first major Emmy. However, it was what occurred once he got to the platform that left both the audience and his fiancée, Kaley Cuoco, wiping away tears.
On the red carpet at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Tom and Kaley arrived together. The Big Bang Theory actress flaunted her baby belly in a custom pale-pink Christian Siriano gown. After two years of dating, the couple got engaged in 2024 and are expecting their second child together, a girl, after their daughter Matilda was born in 2023.
When Tom's name was called for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, beating out a stacked field that included Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy, and Gerran Howell from The Pitt, as well as Billy Crudup, Jack Lowden, and Carlos-Manuel Vesga, he made his way to the stage for an acceptance speech that began serious and ended in tears.
Tom thanked his family, friends, and the Task creative team, including co-star Mark Ruffalo. But the moment that stole the show came when he turned his attention to the audience — and to Kaley.
“I love you more than anything, and our family is the crown jewel of my life," Tom said. He didn't stop there, addressing his daughter Matilda directly before acknowledging the baby girl still on the way. Cameras caught Kaley in the audience visibly overwhelmed, dabbing at her eyes as she heard her fiancé's words.
This is Tom's first major Emmy win. He had already received a guest actor nomination for his performance on Ozark, but his triumph for Task on Sunday elevated him to a new level of prominence. Ironically, Tom will not return for Task Season 2.
