The Mahakali teaser promises a grand showdown between the divine goddess and the asuras

The Mahakali teaser starts with a fight between Dharma and Adharma. Akshaye Khanna looks hardly recognisable in the role of Shukracharya with his white beard, matted hair, and white garb.

Mahakali teaser: Shukracharya declares war against humanity

Mahakali teaser shows Shukracharya recalling how the race of Asuras has been forced down to the netherworld and all the doors of 14 worlds have been shut. He wishes that the cry of victory of the Asuras may ring in the 14 days, so they can be free forever.

Toward the end, Shukracharya commands Raktabeej to wipe out the entire human race. But his scheme gets him entangled in a battle with the cosmic energy of Maa Kali.

Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, this film is scripted by Prashanth Varma. Smaran Sai has scored the music for this movie. Some other actors starring in this movie include Bhoomi Shetty, Rohit Saraf, Sriya Reddy, Rajat Kapoor, and Nassar.

Who is Shukracharya?

Shukracharya, also known as Shukra, is a revered sage in Hindu mythology and the guru of the Asuras. He is best known for possessing the knowledge of Sanjivani Vidya, which could revive the dead. In stories involving Goddess Kali, Shukracharya is associated with the forces of the Asuras and often represents their spiritual guide or strategist.

However, he is not traditionally described as Kali’s enemy or direct adversary. It's yet to be seen how Khanna's role has been scripted and what dynamic Shukracharya shares with the divine goddess.

Akshaye Khanna's performance in the Mahakali teaser is already pleasing his fans. One person commented, "Can’t wait to see the film all the best to the entire team and Akshaye is absolutely nailing it with his performance, the voice, the posture the expressions! 😭❤️‍🔥 we can’t wait ❤️" Another person commented, "AKSHAYE KHANNA IS SO PEAK HERE HE JUST MAKES IT 10x MORE INTRIGUING AND POWERFUL❤️❤️❤️." Some people also praised the production house, "Another masterpiece from PVCU after HANUMAN (2024) 🔥🙌🏻."

Meaning of 'Boroma Dekhche'

At the end of the trailer the screen goes black with the text 'Boroma Dekhche' in Hindi written on screen in red which means 'Boroma is watching'. Viewers have made interpreted this Bengali tagline differently. It goes without saying that Ma Kaali's story has a strong connection to Bengal and "Boro Maa" (or Boroma) specifically refers to a famous, giant 21 to 22-foot-tall idol and revered manifestation of Goddess Kali located in Naihati, West Bengal.

The film may have referred to Ma Kali as 'Boroma' to show reverence, although is not a general name for Goddess Kali everywhere. It's yet to be seen how the film has used this beloved local title.

The Mahakali teaser also makes the movie the third movie in the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe. The cinematic universe began with Hanu-man, released in 2024 and starring Teja Sajja. The Telugu superhero movie earned ₹295.29 crore worldwide.
