Get your summer swagger on with this 24-year-old Chennai stylist's new collection
For 24-year-old Sanjana Sarathy, fashion and styling have always been just a passion. With no formal training in design, she set out to start her own curated online store, named Chatterfox six months back, in an attempt to take her passion a step further. She recently even organised a pop-up at Buva House and sold off all her 20 ensembles. With the launch of her Spring Summer Line ’18, the young entrepreneur says that she loves to put together lines that are chic, comfortable and most importantly, wearable for any occasion.
“I developed a flair for fashion and styling but didn’t think I would actually pursue it! I was at a crossroads in my career where I was in Hong Kong working at a news channel, after completing my masters in Electronic Media in Chennai. But then my friend nudged me towards styling and that’s exactly what I did!” says Sanjana, who has also acted in several TV advertisements like Amazon Prime, Pizza Hut and 7Up and acted in movies like Thuppaki, Endredrum Punnagai and Vazhakku en 18/9.
With a Twitter following of 11.1k followers, Sanjana kick-started Chatterfox last year in September. The label has a range of dresses, A-line skirts, baseball and jersey dresses, embroidered lace crochet tops and her specialty — shirt dresses. “Our style varies with time and the spring summer looks will soon be up for grabs. Change is the only thing that’s constant, so I keep updating the line periodically,” says Sanjana. Chatterfox also has a line of rompers and jumpsuits with tie backs, as they’re perfect right now for the summer. As for her choice of colours, Sanjana tends to stick to the season’s shades like pastels and summer shades. “Given our tropical setting, I opt for pastel and cooler tones like beige, blush, mint greens and summer yellows. But this varies with the season, because I also pick a lot of colours and quirky patterns!”
With fabrics, Sanjana likes to keep it light, and something that doesn’t stick to your skin. “Our go-to picks are linen, textured cottons and durable nylons,” says Sanjana. You can also find a Neoprene white skirt on her Instagram page, along with semi-casual brunch looks. With her collection being primarily evening and casual wear, Sanjana is now looking to expand into Indo-Western wear. “At the end of the day, I am desi at heart, so I want to show that side of me as well.” Apart from styling and blogging, Sanjana is also a ballet dancer and wants to pursue professional aerial silk training. Why Chatterfox, we ask her? ‘I’d like to think of myself as a foxy and stylish girl who loves to talk a lot,” says Sanjana with a laugh. She is currently creating several fashion lookbooks for the season and will be putting them on social media soon.
