Sonia Agarwal has always managed to turn heads, on and off screen. The Chennai-based actress who has played characters on different ends of the spectrum—from the naive college student in Kadhal Kondein to more recently, the rustic, self-assured Teresia in the Malayalam movie Theettra Rappai —says that labels do not dictate her wardrobe or her style. “Fit and comfort top the priority list. I am not brand crazy,” shares the 36-year-old, who is currently working on multiple movies —Thadam with Arun Vijay, Dasathvaram (the Tamil remake of Temper) with Vishal, and Kadhalai Thedi Nitya Nandha with GV Prakash. Apart from quality alone time as a part of a self-care routine, here are some wardrobe essentials that Sonia prescribes.

Ethnic reboot
For her ethnic wear, Sonia Agarwal chooses Sidney Sladen as her favourite designer. “I love the way Sidney’s clothes are comfortable and well-fitting. He knows the perfect silhouette for a body type even
without the trials.” Affording a prêt alternative, this raw silk anarkali kurta by designer Divya Reddy is a close match to the mint green and blush pink anarkali that was created by the Chennai-based designer for the actress. Accentuated with a parsi border and a heavy floral embroidered bodice, this regal piece that comes complete with a sequined Kota dupatta, is sure to make a statement. Rs 72,800 approximately.

The finer threads
Known for her love of the fit and flare silhouette and embroidered gowns, Sonia Agarwal is partial to the creations of designer Nakul Sen for her red carpet looks. In the same vein, we think this ivory mononet gown by Varun Bahl ticks all the right boxes. With a deep v-neck and embroidered booti motifs with sequins and beads, this sleeveless number is a conversation starter. Rs 1,60,000 approximately.

String along
As far as casuals go, Sonia picks Mango for their style and comfort. Describing her style as something that is practical, a tank top with a stylish pair of pants are a must-have for a casual evening. We think this black tank top with crisscross straps at the back fits the bill. Paired up with a straight cut, crepe trouser that comes with a removable fabric belt, this v-neck satin finish top makes for a classy laid-back look. Rs 9,000 approximately.

Starry eyed
Sporting a penchant for sunnies, Sonia picks Gucci as her all-time favourite. “If you really love sunglasses, you have to own at least one pair from Gucci. I love the finesse of their designs.” We think this round-frame shiny gold guilloché metal frame with purple enamel detailing from the brand will be perfect for a day out. Rs 38,075 approximately.

Glam rock
“I'm not an accessories person. I prefer keeping my jewellery to a minimum. But on the off-chance that I’d like to dress up, my choice would be a polki necklace from Tanishq,” says the actor. We pick this necklace from the Jewels of Royalty collection that is studded with uncut diamonds, open polki and golden beads from the label. Rs 3,63,255 approximately.

Sole inspiration
Though the actress does love a good pair of sneakers or flats, Sonia swears by Charles & Keith for an option with heels. Investing in a pair that flatters and is functional at the same time, these nude stilettos are a closet staple. Featuring an asymmetrical topline, these pointed pumps can be teamed up with skinny jeans and a white tee. Rs 6,000 approximately.

Fresh start
Less is always more, believes Sonia. “Letting your skin breathe and staying away from chemical products is always the best skincare regimen. I use moisturiser every night and the occasional cleanup facial.” For a non-toxic skin care routine, try the Exfoliating Instant Facial from Goop. This
vegan mask uses plant-based cellulose beads that release Vitamin B5 and exfoliates the skin, leaving it feeling soft and moisturised. Rs 9,036 approximately.
