A massive screen, sporty theme and tasty food at Five Mad Men, Kolkata ensures good times
FOR sports enthusiasts, Five Mad Men is great news. And for non-sporty souls, the whopping 6,000 sq ft pub offers impressive sips, bites and some groove. Hard to miss is the giant Wall of Fame that held our undivided attention as soon as we entered the Gastro Play Pub, rekindling memorable moments in the world of sports. From Sourav Ganguly’s raunchy shirtless moment after a famous win at Lords in 2002, to the winning strokes of Roger Federer, and Usain Bolt’s world record — all work as great conversation starters. Adding a pop of colour were the football jerseys of Ronaldo and Messi, besides other sports paraphernalia and quirky wall art.
A 25-foot projector in the bar section was screening a live IPL match, which let us pause for a while before we headed to the gaming zone, and tried our hands at some foosball. We noticed, they also have darts, air hockey, carom, Xbox and a pool table, to keep us more engaged. “We have the biggest screen in the city, which gives a different experience to the matches.
Also, we are planning to showcase GoT episodes on Monday evenings,” says Sayan Roy, one of the five ideators of the Sector V pub. FMM has a total of 43 investors. You can also expect bands to perform gigs here on allotted days. We sipped on the refreshing vodka-based Offside Cocktail, in a daab-shaped container, which paired well with the bite-size Coin Luchi with Kosha Mangsho. Inspired by Bengali cuisine, the mini luchi topped with spicy Kosha mangsho, makes for a flavourful appetiser. Also worth trying is the crispy Cheesy Galangal Flavour Corn Cake, served with mayonnaise. From the main menu, we sampled the Goan Style Pork Ribs served with Lemon Rice. The ribs are sourced from Gurugram and were succulent and spicy, and the lemony accompaniment hit the right spot. For our vegetarian friends, chef ’s Chilli Basil Paneer Tikka is a must try.
