Silent Theatre under the stars. Kebabs and Mexican-style churros. And Shakthisree Gopalan of Nenjukkulle fame serving up a live unplugged session?

This open invitation picnic at the YMCA grounds in Nandanam, just got way cool. Organised by Shamshad Begum of Buva House and experiential marketeer Farhana Suhail, The Big Picnic that is slated for this weekend promises loads of fun, food, music and fashion.

“We have 50 carefully curated shopping and food stalls, including Millies Cookies, Al-Najeebs Seekh Kebabs and Bubblefarm skincare, Happy Box for fun magnets and Noizzy Box speakers,” says Shamshad.

On the entertainment side, look out for a fashion show by choreographer Sunil Menon, open mic and karaoke sessions, a band performance by Best Kept Secret from Bengaluru and a kids talent hunt for the
little ones.

As for how the silent theatre set up fits into all this, Farhana tells us, “It’s our initiative to minimise noise pollution. We have a beautifully decorated space where people and take a pair of headphones and sit or lie down and watch classics like Indiana Jones and Back to the Future under a starry sky.” With 50 headphones available, this option is on a first-cum-first serve basis.

On March 2 and 3. At YMCA grounds, Nandanam. Early bird entry fee is Rs 150 online, or Rs 200 at the venue. Children under 12 can enter free. Products range from Rs 100 to Rs 4,000.
