Coimbatore's newest dessert bar introduces a vegan bubble tea range
A COSY ice cream bar with an intense golden yellow and candy pink interiors, Iceberry IND serves 60 flavours of bubble tea and the city’s first 24k edible gold ice cream. Located at RS Puram, this 360 sq feet dessert house has an extensive range of 70 toppings, a roll it yourself ice cream counter and potted rose plant dessert. Looking to update the cold beverages scene in the city, engineers turned entrepreneurs Bala Manickam N, Balaji T and Senthil B decided to launch their venture with bubble tea.
Love at the first sip
Introducing the city to this Taiwanese delicacy, Iceberry serves this drink in a 400ml bulb shaped pet bottle. With much intrigue surrounding the bubble tea, Bala says, “We have had a lot of vegan customers who come by just to try our bubble tea.” Offering customised options, each drink is layered with oodles of chewy tapioca pearls, juicy bobas that bursts in your mouth and nata de coca jellies made from coconut pulp.
We start with a customer- favourite, the creamy blueberry bubble tea. Made with whipped nondairy cream, this vegan berry flavoured drink is quite thin and tastes slightly diluted. We recommend that you add the Hong Kong black tea infusion into the mix for a stellar drink. Following the cream-based variant are the fresh tea adaptations. The lychee black bubble tea and mulberry oolong tea are fruity and refreshing at the same time. For those looking for a milk-based version, try the Chinese boba milk that is sweetened with palm sugar and topped off with tapioca pearls. The Japanese matcha milk delivers on flavour as promised and is our favourite.
The Midas code
While the bubble teas are novelty enough, Iceberry puts a royal spin with its 24k gold leaf ice cream. Only made on order, this sweet treat is infused with saffron and topped with a wide array of nuts. As a final touch, this luxury dessert is completed with a delicate five by five cm square edible gold foiling.
Can you dig it?
Next at our table is another signature - the pot ice cream. A frozen treat that mimics a potted plant, the Planto is served in a mud pot as seven layers of ice cream, brownie, nuts, marshmallows, chocolate cereals, whipped cream and the crunchy Oreo crumbs on the top. A symphony of texture, more than flavour this is the perfect treat to satisfy all your sugar cravings.
