Chennai, Dec 15: Google's Wear OS might not be commonly associated with too many smartwatches. Although, fans of the technology are likely to recall the brand Misfit, while some others might name Fossil.
Texas-based Fossil is one of the few brands that has remained loyal to Google's Wear OS, which was earlier referred to as Android Wear. The company refreshes its smartwatch line-up each year, often avoiding much of the fanfare that Samsung smartwatches tend to enjoy.
For an important note, Samsung's new watches and hearables - both self-branded as well as JBL-branded - captured 9.8 per cent share of the global wearable market, according to International Data Corporation (IDC) reports.
Powered by Wear OS, Fossil has now introduced the Gen 5 Smartwatch for INR 22,995 with the promise of an extended battery mode, and a swim-proof speaker.
The Fossil "Carlyle" style Gen 5 smartwatch brings with it a familiar and typical masculine approach.
The watch sports a chunky 1.28-inch AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 328ppi (pixel per inch) and three pushers on the right side. In the middle is a rotatable crown. Note: The bezel doesn't rotate like on a Samsung Galaxy watch.
The display is beautiful and sharp to look at.
The Fossil Gen 5 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3,100 chip, which does help the device in terms of battery life, giving you a little short of a day's life on a single charge. The Always on display does tend to drain the battery.
The makers have custom modes to help the device last longer. The addition of a speaker is refreshing, and users can have them on while keeping it connected to their smartphone.
The speaker also allows your watch to answer you when are using Google Assistant, and can also take calls from the watch.
The device is also water resistant up to 3ATM.
Overall, the Fossil Gen 5 offers a very good proposition, with a good deal of versatility.
For a fashion note, users can easily swap the straps to customise it further.
The Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch is meant for both Wear OS fans and fitness enthusiasts.
