GVK’s Mumbai International Airport now hosts direct flights by Air Tanzania

Hyderabad-based GVK company’s CSMIA the only airport in India to facilitate non-stop operations between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam boosting tourism and trade between the two countries.

Hyderabad, July 19, 2019: India and Tanzania have appreciated traditionally close, friendly and co-operative relations since early-1960s.

Further leveraging and boosting tourism and trade between the two countries, Hyderabad’s GVK led Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) managing the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) restarted flights between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam after over 20 years.

Inaugurated by Hon Eng Isack A Kamwelwe – Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, HE Baraka H Luvanda – High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania to India, Alban Rodricks – CISB, Mumbai and the airport along with its key stakeholders welcomed the Air Tanzania’s first flight – Boeing 787-8 with 147 passengers on board in Mumbai.

The new route will be available to passengers travelling from Dar Es Salaam to Mumbai thrice a week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and Mumbai to Dar Es Salaam on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, respectively starting 18th July 2019.

Air Tanzania’s Boeing 787-8 with 22 Business class seats and 240 Economy seats departed from Dar Es Salaam at 1930 hrs., marking the airline’s first commercial flight to India and reached Mumbai (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) at 0420 hrs.

The flight will have a morning departure out of MIAL, reaching Dar es Salaam the same day. Currently, CSMIA is the only airport in the country with permissions to operate Air Tanzania’s newest non-stop route of approximately 7.5 hours.

Situated just south of the Equator, Tanzania is home to an exceptionally rich array of wildlife and wilderness. It includes the beautiful Serengeti National Park, a safari hub populated by the mighty yet mesmerizing animals like elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinos.

Home to Africa’s highest mountain – Kilimanjaro National Park and tropical islands of Zanzibar with a marine park with whale sharks and coral reefs. With interesting culture with more than 120 different indigenous African people, Tanzania has a lot to excite the inquisitive Indian explorers.

Furthermore, Dar es Salaam is the centre of government administration and the largest city and port in the country with direct non-stop flights via Mumbai; travellers can now boost trading opportunity with the East African country.

Air Tanzania’s flights via MIAL will make it easier for the travellers from Africa and India to travel to either directions thus enhancing the economic activity between the two countries.

GVK MIAL endeavours to provide best in class facilities to our passengers travelling via Mumbai. Catering to 48.8 million passengers, MIAL sees increasing passenger traffic travelling to Africa for trade as well as for leisure – to experience the lifestyle, culture and traditions.

This is the second non-stop route introduced by MIAL in the last 30 days with the earlier one expanding RwandAir’s connectivity from Mumbai to China’s trade capital Guangzhou on 18 June 2019.

Similarly, the airport also expands its operations to Egypt, Rwanda, Seychelles, Mauritius, Kenya, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Nairobi among other prominent destinations in Africa.
