Guinness World Records recently reported that Bobi, a guard dog living in Conqueiros, central Portugal, passed away at the age of 31, becoming the world's oldest documented dog. The venerable canine, known for his astonishing longevity, spent his entire life in the village of Conqueiros.

Bobi world Oldest Dog Died

Bobi came into this world on May 11, 1992, a loyal companion to his owner, Leonel Costa, since he was just eight years old. Mr Costa, who attributes Bobi's extended lifespan to a diet of nourishing food and plenty of fresh countryside air, shared that Bobi was never restrained by a leash. “Bobi eats what we eat,” he fondly remarked.

Bobi's impressive journey as the world's oldest dog was officially recognised in February of this year, making headlines across the globe. However, this past Saturday, this remarkable and beloved dog reached the end of his life’s journey, living to be 31 years and 165 days old.

Guinness World Records, expressing their condolences, shared, “Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough for those who loved him.” A sentiment echoed by many who cherished the unique canine.

Remarkably, more than 100 people joined in celebrating Bobi's 31st birthday in May. He was indeed a beloved figure in his community and far beyond.

Bobi Owner Leonel Costa

Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, defied the odds by exceeding the typical lifespan of his breed, which averages between 10 and 14 years. Leonel Costa, Bobi's devoted owner, is also the caretaker of four cats. Rafeiro do Alentejo dogs have historically served as valuable sheepdogs in various agricultural contexts.

Before Bobi's remarkable feat, the previous record holder for the world's oldest dog was an Australian cattle dog that lived to be 29 years and five months, with her journey ending in 1939.
