Clan carrier: Renault Triber is a small car offering, rich in features with multiple seat modes

Renault is out with a bold new car christened the Triber. It doesn’t conform to any segment in particular, however, it does fit the bill of being a small car.

Its versatility with the ability to fit up to seven people on board while offering a frugal driving experience is another attractive factor.

Design aesthetics
The model carries a bold look that borrows a lot of design cues from the company’s SUV line-up.

This includes the projector headlights, chrome grille, robust-looking bumper, front and rear SUV-inspired skid plates, LED daytime running lights and functional roof rails.

The vehicle carries a clean design with pronounced character lines and a sculpted bonnet as well. It is clearly one of the best-looking cars in the company’s entire portfolio.

Cabin chronicles
Boasting a modern interior design, the car comes with good attention to detail.

It carries a nice two-tone look with chrome highlights for that added touch of premium-ness and the fabric and plastics look appealing.

The appeal of the car is enhanced by the high-quality ambience brought about by the kit on board that includes a start/stop ignition, an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen interface with MediaNav Evolution that gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB connectivity and a fully digital LED instrument cluster.

Versatile forms
The real selling point of the vehicle is the plethora of seat configurations.

This includes Life Mode which is essentially a five-seater with recline, the seven-seater Tribe Mode that uses the full seat capacity, Surf Mode to accommodate oversized objects and Camp Mode that configures the car for two people while the rest of the space can be used to set up a mobile home.

Having said that, the seven-seater guise offers 84 litres of boot space which can be enhanced to 625 litres in a five-seater configuration.

Power perspective
Powering the machine is the new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 72 PS power and 
96 Nm torque.

It is paired with a five-speed manual transmission. For a vehicle that weighs just 947 kg, these numbers are adequate.

The benefit of having a small engine is that the company can claim a fuel efficiency of 20 km to the litre!

Our verdict
The Triber is a value for money proposition and is a rather unique offering in the small car segment. It is rich in features, looks great and can be yours for INR 4.95 lakh which is a deal that is hard to argue with.

Available in four trims and a class-leading warranty package, the Triber is a vehicle that has been conceived for the value-oriented customer.
