Don't miss Attakkalari Interim Festival 2019 that brings the best of contemporary dance to Bengaluru

From a performance about India’s mission to the moon and a piece on the appropriation of other cultures through dance to one that talks about the idea of resilience of a strained body, the Attakkalari Interim Festival 2019 - Move to Transform has a lot to offer.

Besides performances, there will also be residencies and workshops at the 10-day event. The Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts which is hosting this festival for the first time promises that it will not only be a symposium for contemporary dance professionals, but also an event to provide artistes with opportunities for transdisciplinary exploration.

Expect a line-up that includes performances by troupes from Germany, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Britain, France and Korea apart from India. The festival starts with a piece by German duo, Julian Warner and Oliver Zahn. Titled Situation with Doppelganger, it explores the theme of identity. An interesting performance that should not be missed is Chandini Project by Hemabharathy Palani, a contemporary dancer from India. This piece traces the journey of India’s mission to the moon and draws parallels to a woman’s life. “It’s an allegorical expression of how a woman’s life evolves from just social customs to living a modern life,” explains Jayachandran Palazhy, artistic director of Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts.

At the event, Jayachandran will also launch the Incubation Centre for the Arts and Media (ICAM), through which six Indian artistes will collaborate with various Canadian, Italian and Korean artistes.
