Gemfields join forces in a new brand partnership with fine jeweller Shruti Sushma. The mother-daughter (Sushma Chhajer and Shruti Chhajer Ranka) label is revered for using high quality gemstones in elegant designs that hark back to the glamour of bygone days and channel India’s renowned heritage of fine craftsmanship. The collaboration features Kagem’s emeralds in a myriad designs, often paired with diamonds or tanzanites. Floral motifs dominate the collection of earrings and necklaces like the Waterlily Emerald and Diamond Earrings and Cabochon Emerald Earrings, inspired by the Mughal era.
We talk to Sushma Chhajer to learn more about the collection. “The collaboration was born from a shared commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship. Gemfields’s responsibly mined gemstones perfectly complement our innovative designs. This partnership elevates both brand’s visions by offering consumers exquisite jewellery pieces that embody luxury and ethical practices,” says Sushma.
The Kagem emeralds, responsibly mined from Gemfields’s Kagem mine in Zambia, are featured prominently in this collection. “These emeralds not only meet the highest ethical standards but also have a positive impact on the surrounding communities and ecosystems,” says Sushma.
About the significance of the floral motifs, she tells us that in Indian heritage, floral motifs symbolise beauty, spirituality, and prosperity. “The waterlily, for instance, represents purity and enlightenment, while Mughal-inspired florals reflect India’s rich artistic history. Our designs embody this cultural legacy, seamlessly blending traditional charm with a modern, sophisticated aesthetic. Each piece tells a story,” she elaborates.
When it comes to pairing high-quality gemstones like emeralds, diamonds, and tanzanites in intricate jewellery designs, she tells us that it is all about balance, and the process requires both skillful craftsmanship and a deep understanding of the stone’s individual characteristics and how they complement each other. “As each gemstone is carefully placed within the design, a story unfolds— one of beauty and luxury. The resulting piece is not just jewellery but a work of art that resonates with those who appreciate nature’s finest creations,” she shares.
The collection effortlessly caters to contemporary women’s tastes while channelling the allure of past eras. “They are designed to be cherished by future generations while being enjoyed by contemporary women,” adds Sushma.
