Hello Lover celebrates individuality through dramatic, flirtatious and stylish statement pieces

We talk to Shivang Chandna, creative director and founder of Past Modern, to know more about the collection.

“Summer is a sensory experience. The vibrant colours of blooming flowers, lush greenery, bright sunshine, chirping birds, cool relief from a dip in the sea, and smell of freshly cut grass bring so much joy. We wanted to craft our collection by re-engineering that feeling into our clothes. Garments have been designed using soft and lightweight fabrics like cotton and linen that feel good on the skin,” he shares.

The construction of dresses combines techniques like ruching, pleating, and shirring that create varying textures and infuse fluidity in the silhouettes. The colour palette is a mix of soft and rich shades inspired by the natural world. All these elements come together to create a rich tapestry of influences woven throughout the collection.

“It is only on a closer inspection of our ready-to-wear line will customers be able to draw parallels between traditional influences and our modern expression. The asymmetrical hemlines, pleating, and one shoulder drape hint at garments of the past worn by Indian women. Modern codes of dress construction have been applied to these influences and fabrics have been provided with more structure, thereby merging form and function,” he explains.

Some of the standout pieces include the asymmetric flare dress, and the pleated shirt dress, which is a creative play on the menswear work staple, shirt. “The silhouette has been elongated, adorned with delicate pleats that run through the front and back, infusing fluidity, and complemented by classic tailoring elements like a pointed collar, concealed button placket, and large cuffs. To enhance the functionality of the garment, pockets have been added on the side seams making it a perfect choice for a day that requires a woman to transition between on-duty and off-duty,” he adds.

Price ranges between Rs 3,850 and Rs 6,750. Available online.
