Happy as a clam! Kareena plays “Feel Alive” ambassador

As brand ambassador for Sony BBC Earth, the actor Kareena Kapoor statedly embodies the tag-line, “Feel Alive”. In an email exchange soon after the new TV channel’s launch earlier this March, she spoke about her love for nature, and the idea of “subliminal happiness”.
How do you see the Sony BBC Earth idea of "factual entertainment" being received in India? How relevant is such content for audiences who largely prefer entertainment of the song-and-dance variety?
I have seen the content of BBC Earth with my husband Saif (Ali Khan), and it blew my mind. The stories are narrated in such a positive way that it gives you a completely new perspective on things. I am sure the Indian audiences will feel the same when they see the content on Sony BBC Earth with shows like Snow Chick - a heart-touching story of a young penguin from birth to adulthood, beautifully narrated by Kate Winslet. There are many amazing shows like Planet Earth II and The Hunt that are told brilliantly by the Godfather of Natural History, Sir David Attenborough. I am also his big fan. When the audiences watch these and other stories on Sony BBC Earth, they will feel positive and happy… just what the channel promises to do.
Can we have your take on the idea of an "information-based lifestyle", where knowledge is the key requisite for an evolved mindset, in as much as say, technology, the latest gadgetry, or fashion?
In today’s fast-paced generation, where the youngsters need everything on the move, it is important to be updated and be able to provide them with knowledge on the latest technology, fashion trends, information-based lifestyle, etc. Television plays a very important role in this. Channels such as Sony BBC Earth are the vehicles that offer this kind of knowledge to the audiences and I am sure after watching this channel one will be instilled with a feeling of happiness because of its mind blowing content, grand visual spectacle and positive insightful storytelling.
Are you much of a nature lover? Do you take to the outdoors often? Would you encourage youngsters to explore the wild as much as say, watching interesting programmes on TV?
I have always been fascinated by nature and wildlife. I love exploring the world and its natural beauty. I am an avid traveller and have visited many countries that have widened my perspective towards life. And this same feeling of positivity and subliminal happiness was evoked in me when I saw the content on Sony BBC Earth. Hence, my advice to youngsters is go and explore the wild and also find time to watch Sony BBC Earth as it will open your eyes to the wonders of the universe.
Tell us a little about the outfit you wore for the launch event? Do naysayers in the fashion world matter to you?
I wore a powder blue Nikhil Thampi gown for the event, sporting a dark lip colour with diamond jewellery to complete the look. Fashion police has never affected me as I have always worn outfits that I am comfortable wearing.
How do you intend to emulate and promote the "Feel Alive" idea, as the ambassador of Sony BBC Earth?
As the channel’s ambassador, I play the role of an influencer in connecting audiences to the beauty of our natural world. I would love my fans to watch these never-seen-before stories, mind-blowing visuals and insightful storytelling by legends such as Ben Fogle, Michael Mosley and my all-time favourite Sir David Attenborough. I want to give the viewers and my fans a reason to feel positive and happy and that is just what Sony BBC Earth promises to do… so go watch and Feel Alive!
