Body Matters - Move to Transform is an arts-in-education festival organised by Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts. The three-day festival will have seminars and workshops on this topic, along with performances by the  students of the Centre as well as renowned choreographers from across the world.  “We want movement and dance to take centrestage in education. Children need to play and dance and not lead a sedentary lifestyle,” says Jayachandran Palazhy, artistic director of Attakkalari.

The festival is a culmination of  a two-week camp held by the Centre called Essence Interna-tional. The faculty includes international dancers representing various genres such as ballet and contemporary dance.

The highlight of the festival is a multimedia performance, Bhinna Vinyasa. This will be its first show in India before the production leaves for a tour across Canada and Spain. “The performance talks about migration. Not just in India, but all over the world it is a pertinent issue,” says Jayachandran, adding, “We question what prompts people to leave and leap into the unknown. And also what it means for the community that is receiving them.”
