With fusion on their minds, the owners of Anna Nagar’s newest kebab eatery Kebabery are offering diners many of the popular Western dishes like sandwiches and tortillas — but with a Middle Eastern twist.

The 25-seater well-lit restaurant is co-owned by Kamil Aslam and  Chef Naushad, and has a large menu to draw in the diners. Expect soups and starters in chicken and fish, and a variety of kebab preparations. However, what truly has our attention are the Mexican dishes like quesadillas and burritos stuffed with juicy kebabs. The restaurant also caters to vegetarians with dishes like a delicious Garlic Paneer Tikka and a spicy Mushroom from the Nawab, among others.

We start with a colourful Non-Veg Platter (Rs 799), served on custom-made skewers. The four steaming varieties — malai kebab, chicken sholay, hariyali kebab and the tandoori chicken wings are served with crisp fries and mayonnaise on the side. While the malai kebabs are perfectly creamy, the chicken sholay and hariyali kebabs are mildly spicy as the tandoori chicken wings topped the Scoville scale for our palate. The Gravy of the Day — Methi Chicken ( Rs 220) is served with soft naan and turns out to be quite filling with big chunks of chicken dunked in a spicy tandoori-orange hued gravy balanced with the flavour of fenugreek (methi).

Our expectation of the Middle eastern — Mexican fusion dish Kebab-A-Dilla (Rs 260) is well met. We find the regular Indian roti in place of a Mexican tortilla. Stuffed with tender cubes of medium spicy chicken tikka, it is tossed with capsicum, kidney beans, jalapenos and olives, before being grilled at the live counter. Diners can choose from the different kinds of kebabs to add to the quesadilla. The dish is served with French fries and a sweet mango pickle topped with curd on the side; the burst of flavours makes the dish an instant hit for us.

We end the meal with a visually enchanting Ice Cream Cake (Rs 90) — a typical ice cream sandwich decorated with a waffle stick, sprinkles and vanilla ice cream which can also be substituted with chocolate ice cream, on demand.
