Chennai-based NGO Kai Rassi had our attention earlier this year when they collaborated with Sathyam Cinemas to feature artworks by differently-abled artistes on their popcorn tubs. And now, the one-year-old NGO has announced the second edition of Kai Rassi Art Exhibit, where they will showcase 30 works of over 10 differently-abled artistes from various parts of the country.

“The first edition of this exhibition that was held last year was rather a small scale event and featured just  three artistes, whereas this time it is more formal. We are giving them a space just like how any other artiste is treated with, when they put up a public show,” says Kadambari Narendran, one of the three founding directors of the NGO.

With each artiste bringing works with their signature style, expect to find pieces in a variety of forms and mediums such as watercolour, abstract acrylic, comic sketches and Indian folk art, among others.

With an intention to spread the word to a larger audience that includes architects, gallery owners and interior designers, the organisation is aiming at empowering these artistes by creating a platform for them to display and sell their art, thereby creating a sustainable revenue out of their talent.

“These artists get to realise their potential when they see their works on display. It is also an opportunity  for them to interact with a much bigger audience. They will feel much empowered when they are recognised for their talent,” says Premaladha Balaji, mother of Puducherry-based artist, Pavitra Balaji, who will bring her watercolour paintings to the show.
