Before he jetted off to Dubai, Indulge seized him for a moment to chat with him about State of Being, showcasing his art in the Middle East and lots more.

What was the inspiration behind State of Being?

State of Being is an invitation to explore the complexities of human existence. Through bold and emotive use of colour, light and form, each painting encourages a deeper understanding of oneself and the world. Featuring figurines amid serene backdrops symbolising diverse emotional states, it evokes contemplation on the human condition, capturing the ethereal essence of human aura in subtle blends of greys. I have created this with the aim of inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the beauty of fleeting moments and the profound sense of peace that can be found in quiet contemplation.

What mediums and techniques did you utilise?

The collection utilises mixed media, including acrylic, oil pastels and charcoal. Predominantly abstract, the pieces balance vibrant colours with bold strokes on large canvases, depicting a dynamic interplay of warm and cool tones.

Did a background in architecture influence your creative process behind the collection?

No learning in life goes to waste. My training in archtecture has taught me about colours, textures and balance. Understanding the harmony of art and form in a space, with elements that can exist in a certain environment, was a very essential layer that it taught me. My creativity is built on learning to evolve as an artist.

Tell us about a piece that stands out in the collection.

Sunset Solace (36 inches x 72 inches) captures the essence of tranquillity as the day draws to a close, featuring a human figure reclining on the softness of the earth, amidst a canvas of golden yellows and muted greys. At the heart of the composition lies the central figure, the form draped in hues of yellow that evoke the warmth and comfort of the setting sun. The figure is depicted in a state of repose, the posture conveying a sense of relaxation and serenity. As evening descends, the soft light enveloping the figure creates an atmosphere of gentle tranquillity, inviting viewers to share in the quiet stillness of the moment.

In the background, layers of grey paint blend seamlessly, suggesting the fading light of dusk and the subtle transitions between day and night. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth and dimension to the scene, imbuing it with a sense of mystery and contemplation. To the left of the painting, a symbolic almost dried plant with some red leaves stands as a poignant reminder of the passage of time and the cycle of life.

How does it feel to display your work at World Art Dubai?

Displaying my capsule collection along with ten other pieces at World Art Dubai is exhilarating, given how it attracts artists and patrons from all corners of the world. While I have exhibited my art internationally, this is my first foray into the Middle East and I eagerly await the experience.

How do you aim to engage with those who interact with your pieces at the show?

Rather than imposing a singular narrative, my paintings invite individuals to appreciate the visual beauty of the artwork and then explore their own emotional responses to it. Creating an abstract work of art is a two-way process. While one perspective is mine as an artist, the work completes itself when the viewer adds their perspective. And this varies across geographies, age groups and genders. Hence understanding that perspective feeds into my desire to create. These are the most engaging and insightful conversations I have had at art showings and these are the discussions I look forward to every time.
