Alternate rock band Daira’s connect with Kerala is two-fold. Not only have they garnered a fan following in Kerala thanks to their performances at the Mojo Rising music festival, but they have also cited popular Malayalam rock band Avial as an inspiration. The five-piece band (consisting of vocalist Piyush Kapoor, bassist Govind Gawli, drummer Pratik Kulgod and guitarists Vikalp Sharm and Shivam Pant) returns to Kerala, bringing something new to the crowd — a completely original setlist featuring all eight songs from their yet-to-be-titled second album. “Some of the songs have been previewed in Music Mojo, but it’s the first time Kerala will hear the entire album live,” informs band manager Savi Shrivastava.
The band claims that their sound has completely evolved, especially since their lineup change. They are particularly excited about three songs — Sahaafi, Ailaan and Poshaaq — which were written with the new guitarist. The track Sahaafi (meaning journalist in Urdu) — available on the Benchmark Studios channel on Youtube — has already been lauded for its experimental quality. “We have dedicated more time to the songs in this album. So our sound is more mature,” signs off vocalist Piyush Kapoor.
