Laxmi Bomb on showcasing their ‘raanti-rap’ vocals at the Alt & Pepper festival

This four-piece band’s discography will raise a few conservative eyebrows

A quick glimpse of this four-piece band’s discography will raise a few conservative eyebrows. Mumbai’s Laxmi Bomb has carved out a niche for themselves with EP’s like Mah’BHARAT, followed by newer numbers like Run D and A**hole. But, after playing at major festivals like Nariyal Paani and Ragasthan, lending their soundtrack to SonyLiv’s Lost & Found web series, and embarking on an international tour of Malaysia’s club circuit, it’s safe to say that this act has carved out a niche for themselves.

Now, they are headed to the second edition of Kochi’s Alt & Pepper festival. “We’ll be testing out tunes from our upcoming 10-track album called Bol Na Ranti. Kochiites will definitely hear a few thoroughly explicit songs,” states vocalist Keegan Pereira, who will be joined on stage by Joaquim Fernandes (synthesiser), Levin Mendes (drums), and Chandrashekar Kunder aka Major C (on the console).

The outfit’s soundscape is very hard to define. That’s because these artistes have painstakingly crafted records out of an original template comprised of old-school Hindi cinema motifs, electro-pop-punk, and expletive-filled ghetto ‘raanti-rap’ vocals. And their efforts are paying off; four of their songs have recently been licenced for director Aditya Kripalani’s indie movie, incidentally titled, Tikli & Laxmi Bomb.

“Nowadays, viral hits (like Selfie Maine Leli Aaj) are made after a litmus test of the market’s demand. But, we will stick to making music that’s true to our roots, because at the end of the day, as artistes, all of us have to be at peace with ourselves,” explains Keegan, signing off.
