F Khatoon

Playback singer and composer  Akriti Kakar, a Bengali by heart and Punjabi by birth, is wooing her 200,000 fans on YouTube with #YouChooseISing’s latest Dumadum Mast Kalandar. The evergreen Sufi song was written by the 13th-century Sufi poet Amir Khusrow and then later modified by Bulleh Shah and has been re-sung by many.

Elaborating on the choice of song, Akriti explains, "For me, it’s a song that my concerts or any home jams are incomplete. Attempting it with a fresh take was very challenging as well as adventurous since it’s a song that’s been sung by so many artistes. We have given it our best shot to make it our own and give it a fresh and new take.”

She further adds that the song has stood the test of time and never fails to lift the listeners, “Dumadum Mast Kalandar is hands down the maximum requested song by audiences across the globe each time I perform on stage and there would hardly be a concert where I don’t sing it. Also, none of us gets bored with it. It raises our spirits like no other song."
