Mark Wahlberg defends new category in Academy Awards; says hopefully he will now win an Oscar

Mark said there have been certain kinds of commercially successful films and they deserved the kind of notoriety.

Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg on Sunday defended the new ‘Popular Film’ category for the Academy Awards. The Shooter actor said hopefully now that will help him win a few awards which he has missed earlier because he was so close to winning them with films like The Departed and The Fighter. 

According to various media reports, Mark said there have been certain kinds of commercially successful films and they deserved the kind of notoriety. He also went on to say that there are also films made for people to enjoy but if he and everybody gets accolades for that, it would really be fantastic. Interestingly, Mark Wahlberg was nominated in the supporting actor category for his role in The Departed and even for The Fighter in 2010 as a producer. 

Mark is busy with the promotions for Mile 22, which is his 45th film in his career which has been produced by him and will be releasing on August 17. The film also features Ronda Rousey, as a CIA agent.
