DC has hired American filmmaker James Gunn to write Suicide Squad 2 saying he will bring “a completely fresh take to the franchise", according to reports. The former Guardians of the Galaxy director was sacked by Disney in July after a series of controversial tweets allegedly written in the past by Gunn, surfaced online. However, there is no mention of directing, which a few reports indicate as a possibility. 

Suicide Squad 2 was initially fast-tracked by Warner Bros following its success at the box office. However, reports suggest that the filming has been postponed to 2019. There is no confirmation if the original Suicide Squad cast members Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto will be involved.
