India's first openly gay prince Manvendra Singh Gohil celebrates World Pride in New York

India's first openly gay prince, Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil, celebrated WorldPride in New York on Thursday.

He was reportedly the keynote speaker of WorldPride's Human Rights Conference. The World Pride event is organised to celebrate and promote LGBT pride issues on an international platform through parades, festivals and other activities.

Prince Gohil has been an advocate of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) rights activist. In September 2018, the Indian Supreme Court decriminalised homosexuality. The ruling overturned a 2013 judgement that upheld a colonial-era law Section 377, which categorised gay sex as an ‘unnatural offence’.
